Today’s word count: 220.
I’m following a modified version of the plan suggested in Bill Dodds’ How to Write Your Novel in Nine Weeks. He suggests starting with a small daily word count and then building up progressively to a goal. So I’m aiming for about 200 today, 200-300 for the next day or two, 300-400 starting Wednesday, and so on. But I’m not going to push beyond 500 words per day this week. Part of the plan is to stop before you run out of words, so that you begin the next day’s writing with words you’re already eager to get out.
My long-term goal is to average about 1000 words a day, six days a week; or, 6000 words per week. I hope to reach that average by the end of January.
(Obviously, I’m not counting this blog toward my word count!)
